Kalkan

Kalkan beach and crystal clear blue water

This private villa in Kalkan, Turkey is just a short stroll from the old town centre, harbour and beach; here you can charter a gulet (traditional Turkish boat) and discover the true beauty of the coastline, swim in crystal clear waters and enjoy typical Turkish fare. Kalkan offers many activities within easy reach; scuba diving, paragliding, and sea kayaking. Nearby Kaş is a lovely town with a harbour and marina to visit, lots of restaurants and bars, and another great place to take a gulet or boat trip. Villa Paramelle offers amazing sea views but equally there are some wonderful sights that you can only see on a boat trip.

Kalkan is a small Mediterranean fishing town on the beautiful south western Turquoise Coast of Turkey and unlike many of its famous neighbours, it has not been ruined by mass tourism and remains an unspoilt yet sophisticated resort. The town sits at the base of the Taurus Mountains as they dramatically reach the sea. The views are breathtaking of sea and mountains alike. If you are looking for something more than a sea and sun break then holiday villas in Kalkan Turkey are definitely for you. Kalkan itself is very beautiful with original Ottoman structures, tiny painted villas and winding narrow streets. The old town is a protected site, ensuring that it maintains the old architecture and beauty of the Ottoman times. While staying in Kalkan Turkey why not visit a hamam and have a traditional Turkish bath, to relax and imagine those times of old (always book at the start of your holiday, to prepare your skin for that wonderful sunkissed glow).

Villa Paramelle offer the most wonderful views and it is difficult to leave the pool terrace but the shopping in town is excellent and great fun. There is the market, which comes to Kalkan every Thursday, as well as the most upmarket traders in the main town. There really is something for everyone and with a little bartering a bargain might well be had! Fethiye, a large town on the coast to the west of Kalkan has even more shopping and has a huge traditional market on a Tuesday.

Kalkan beach seen from traditional guletKalkan's lovely pebble beach is well worth a visit to experience safe swimming in crystal clear waters. Close by is the harbour and small marina, which is a beautiful place to sit and sip an aperitif after an afternoon on the beach. There are bars and restaurants to suit all budgets. Turkish food is a true delight, from the catch of the day at a sophisticated restaurant to the traditional kebab from a stall. Nightlife is plentiful but it is under-stated rather than wild or noisy as in many resorts.

There are a myriad of things to see and do in and around the area, from visits to ancient sites and amphitheatres, such as Xanthos and Letoon, to taking a boat trip and discovering the sunken city of Kekova. For a lovely day out and a bit of gentle exercise and fun for the whole family, canoe down the Xanthos river. There is something for everyone, no need to rush back at the end of the day, Kalkan villas offer the flexibility you need to make the most of your holiday. The walks are amazing and a trip up into the mountains to the trout farms and restaurants at Tlos and Saklikent Gorge is a real treat. Enjoy lazing by the pool at our private villa in Kalkan Turkey but also enjoy the beaches and clear blue water that surround the area. Beaches nearby include Patara, a fantastic sandy beach and conservation site (a nesting beach for turtles); Kaputas beach, totally natural and unspoilt with amazing torquoise water; Oludeniz with water sports and lagoon, or Olympos for the eternal flames called the Chimaera. And if you want to explore a bit further, nothing beats a visit to Cappadocia or Konya, a very easy drive with stunning scenery along the way.

All of the places mentioned on the website are accessible by dolmus (public minibus); or you can join a tour organised by one of the local travel agents. This is a beautiful area steeped in history and natural beauty, there is so much to see and do, it’s no wonder that people come back to holiday in Kalkan Turkey time after time.
